We are one of the oldest amateur choirs in the country performing in front of audiences in Stroud and beyond since 1834.
Stroud Choral Society comprises an adult choir of around 120 members and children's and youth choirs of around 50 members. We present at least four concerts a year in the Stroud district, including Cirencester, Nailsworth, Minchinhampton and other venues.
Our 2023 concert season began with Bach's St John Passion, followed by an exciting summer concert for our adult and youth choirs, featuring Alexandre L'Estrange's Zimbe! - a celebration of African music. Our autumn concert was a major performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah, with full orchestra and soloists. We concluded the the season with a Christmas concert featuring our children's choir, The Minpins.
Our first concert of 2024 season featured choral works by both Haydn brothers: Joseph Haydn's Nelson Mass and the rarely performed Requiem by his younger brother Michael Haydn. We are now preparing for our summer concert (with the Youth Choir) featuring works by John Rutter, Bob Chilcott and Aaron Copland. In autumn 2024 we look forward to our major performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony in Tewkesbury Abbey.
