Assistant Musical Director and Accompanist

Joannna Greaves

Joanna is Assistant Musical Director and Accompanist for Stroud Choral Society. Her interest in collaborative music-making flourished whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for a post-graduate diploma in piano accompaniment. Masterclasses and lessons with artists such as Graham Johnson, Iain Burnside and Eugene Asti all inspired in her a passion for working with singers. She now enjoys a freelance career accompanying and coaching solo singers, examining music, and teaching the Alexander Technique to enable musicians to become balanced and confident performers.

Joanna has accompanied numerous choirs, in both rehearsal and performance, including the Cheltenham Bach Choir, the Burford Singers, Cantate Youth Choir and the Chelmsford Singers, as well as playing for workshops with the conductors David Wilcox, Gregory Rose, Bob Chilcott and Brian Kay.
She has also enjoyed a busy career within music education, having recently completed no less than 18 years working in the Music Department at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, and accompanying for exams, concerts and competitions. Other experience includes directing the choir and orchestra at the Cathedral School in Chelmsford and leading adult education courses.
Joanna, who has also found the time to perform concerts on classical music cruises around Thailand and Vietnam, moved to Stroud eight years ago to enjoy the excellent combination of beautiful countryside and folk music.
