About Stroud Choral Society

Stroud Choral Society became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in May 2022, following the registration and approval of its new constitution by the Charities Commission. This paved the way for three choral groups to be affiliated under the umbrella of Stroud Choral Society.

Despite our longevity, we are always moving with the times as demonstrated by the formation of both a Children’s choir - The Minpins - and a Youth choir. Both groups have their own concert programme, and we sing jointly whenever possible.

At Stroud Choral Society we aim to offer a home for singers of all ages and abilities in a friendly and stimulating environment of music-making.

Adult choir

We are a non-auditioned choir however, from time to time, our Musical Director may carry out voice checks to test the range of singers, and that this is appropriate to their voice part. An ability to read music is helpful as we explore old and new music.
Our repertoire in recent years has included Beethoven's Mass in C, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, Dvorak and Verdi Requiems, Haydn’s Creation, Handel's Judas Maccabeus and Messiah, Bach's St John Passion, Mendelssohn's Elijah and a thrilling night of contemporary music for our Summer Concert, 2023, including music by Bob Chilcott and featuring Alexandre L'Estrange's Zimbe! - a celebration of African song.
