Dear All

Nice to see so many at the additional rehearsal was this week. Thanks committee for organising. Those of you who came are probably reeling from El Maestro’s shock tactics i.e. introducing the Walton! If ever there was a warning that the July workshop is much needed, last Tuesday’s rehearsal was not a very subtle message El Maestro! Having upped the anti again – we should be flattered that our esteemed thinks we can do it. So folks – this is the Editor’s suggestion: if you would like to sign up for the fun Belshazzer workshop, led by Huw, it will make the Autumn term a lot easier. The workshop is at Marling on Saturday 11th July 2015, 10am – 4pm. Only £15 including music and the form is attached with this mail. For more info go to our website:; or contact Veronica Pride at: or Susie Williams at:

Molly is going to try to bring copies of the Walton to the next rehearsal – Belshazzar score: £13.95. Belshazzar performance CD: £7.15 (conducted by Paul Daniel) and Belshazzar Choraline CD: £10

NB please can you get hold of Opera Choruses for Choirs (if you do not have a copy), or a single copy of Mascagni Easter Hymn (if you do not want to buy the Opera Choruses book)!

Advance warning: we will be asking your opinion at the next rehearsal

In the spirit of elections Molly would like you to cast your vote on the possibility of performing Brahms Requiem in London in November 2016. We know it is a long way off but these things take a lot of organising so we do need to know what you all think! The options relate to our usual November Concert programme. There are 3 choices:

1. We perform in Tewkesbury Abbey AND repeat the performance a week later in London (both with orchestra). Probable cost to you about £50.
2. We only perform in London (ie don’t do a local November performance in Tewkesbury). Probable cost to you £30.
3. We only perform in Tewkesbury – (ie our usual local November concert schedule). No extra cost to you.
Molly would like a show of hands on Monday. If you know you won’t be present please let me know which way you would vote (simple 1, 2 or 3 will do nicely) and I will pass the message on to Molly.

Notices for other events

Choral Weekend Late July – message from Ruth Fraser: We are looking for a few competent singers for our choral weekend in late July. Singers should have a reasonable level of sight reading as the music remains unknown until the first rehearsal. There are places for tenors, sopranos and basses. We would like to have another 2 singers in each part. For more details ask Ruth Fraser.

Tea for two concert reminder – concert 9th May in aid of Minpins (Sat eve 9th and Sun afternoon 10th May)
Just to remind you, the tea for two concert is in aid of Minpins (Sunday 11th May at 3:30pm) so it would be great to support this one if you can only attend one. Tickets are £10 and you can buy them from Zoe on Tuesday – or if you cannot make Tuesday – e-mail Zoe and she can arrange for tickets to be left at the door:

Post rehearsal cool down (following the musical vocal workout)
Come to the pub – you will need that drink! Directions to the Old Crown, Ruscombe Road (next to Archway school). Turn right out of Marling or Beards Lane onto Caincross. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit past the fire station and follow up to the mini-roundabout. Take the first exit and then immediately take the first left into Ruscombe Road – also signposted to Archway school. The Pub is on the right – however take a right as if going into the school and immediate left into the car park.

Another Saturday night concert option: Stephen mentioned this concert in aid of the church roof fund on Tuesday. An evening of Edward Elgar’s music, performed by the Saint Cecilia singers, conducted by Jonathan Hope, 19:45 Beeches Green Church of the Immaculate Conception Stroud. Tickets £10.
