After an exciting concert, it was nice to know that we have another to look forward to so soon. It was great to see so many in the pub and it felt like a real post-concert celebration. No pressure but it would be fab to continue the inclusive theme, so each week I will include pub directions so you all know where to find the post rehearsal party.

Concert Report from Huw – see PDF

Didn’t we all do well – on behalf of us all, huge thanks to Huw. Huw, you brought out the Tigger in all of us and as always were patient and encouraging. Also, equally important, huge thanks to Molly, Zoe, Tom and the many others who all worked their socks off to make sure Saturday was a success. My lovely husband will try to get the photos processed as soon as possible – however he is in bed with flu – so hang in there for another mail with a link.

Huw’s Rehearsal Plan for next Monday

If you don’t know Zadok or the Ireland Greater love then please do some extra homework there because SCS regulars and last year’s tour members do know these! We had a very good rehearsal for Swansea on Monday.

Next Monday March 16th we will be rehearsing:
Faure Introit, Offertorium, Agnus Dei
Rachmaninov Bogoroditsye Dyevo
Verdi Va pensiero
Stanford Bluebird
3 Welsh ditties
Elgar As torrents in summer

Huw’s news and views
People not coming to Swansea are welcome at rehearsals, but it will be likely as the weeks roll on that we do more ‘Swansea only’ choir to check balance etc.

Don’t forget March 30th will be the first rehearsal of the Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle. Just to say the mass is neither small or solemn as the title implies. In fact the opposite – it’s a lot of fun!

Notices from Molly and Sarah

IS YOUR CAR BIG ENOUGH?
Molly would like someone to take over transporting the large display board to concert venues. it is 202cm tall and 102cm wide so you need a big car for it to fit in (it does need to go inside as it can’t get wet).

CALON LAN
Anyone else enjoying the challenge of a new language? I have recruited my father to give me a masterclass – however in order to impress him I found this link to a coaching website – how to sing Calon Lan in 30 minutes. It only coaches verse 1 and the chorus – but it is a start:

Molly has also added the phonetic version to the music (see PDF). It is Huw approved (well put it this way – I think he realised how challenged some of us English luddites were)

DIRECTIONS TO THE OLD CROWN, RUSCOMBE ROAD (next to Archway school)
Turn right out of Marling or Beards Lane onto Caincross. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit past the fire station and follow up to the mini-roundabout. Take the first exit and then immediately take the first left into Ruscombe Road – also signposted to Archway school. The Pub is on the right – however take a right as if going into the school and immediate left into the car park. See you there.
